Dressed in his pinstripe suit and fedora, cigar in hand, Ollie Capone stands confidently atop piles of cash alongside a glamorous strawberry showgirl. Surrounding them are wooden vodka crates, martini glasses, spilled drinks, scattered money and curling cigar smoke.

Against the dramatic black background, Godard’s brilliant reds, greens and whites practically jump from the canvas.

The result is classic Godard—money, martinis, mobsters, romance and mischief, all combined with the playful storytelling that has made his work so recognizable.
